2008 Backpacking the AT |
|
We had snow flurries on Friday with temperatures dropping to 22°F at the backpacker campground near the South Mountain Inn. At 0530 on Saturday the light sleepers among us were woken up by trail runners urging each other on as they ran along the AT. More followed around 0700 after the sun came up. The long hike started at the parking lot on Route 40 and the short hike started at Black Rock Road. We all camped at Warner Hollow on Saturday making the hikes 11 miles and 7.8 miles respectively. The temperatures were
already down to 20°F while making dinner and dropped to 15°F overnight. Participants who camped
both nights will earn 27 Texas Tough points for the weekend. |
