14-16 May 2010 Canoeing the Cacapon in WV |
|
Even though we had some showers the week before the trip the rain didn't raise the river level much. The water level was probably at canoe zero! We went over more small, low water, rapids then anyone could remember. The leaders were frequently out of their canoes assisting the canoes over shallow areas to keep the group moving. Even with that assistance it was longest trip down the river in our collective memory - we started before 9 am and the last canoe was on land until 6:30 in the evening. Regardless of the unusually low conditions it was a great day on the river. The weather was mostly sunny with temperatures in the 70s. Everyone had a great time and arrived in camp very tired.
